Robert MacNeil said “Parents can plant magic in a child’s mind through certain words spoken with some thrilling quality of voice, some uplifting of the heart and spirit”. It is portrayed on television shows as, an open-armed always loving mother, and a stern hardworking father. It’s truly portrayed by those who teach a child the basic needs to make it in life. It is shown on the faces of those who’s heart are not worn on their sleeves, but are walking around unable to be protected by all of lives obstacles. It shows even when the person is willing to put a child’s needs before their own, and giving the child, young or old, all the time they can possibly give; sometimes even giving more time then they can give.
A parent, lets you curl up on their lap when your a 5-year-old with an ear infection. They are the ones that calm your fears, look under your bed and inside your closet just to prove there are no monsters. They are the people who kiss your "boo-boos" all better, and tell you that the couch medicine doesnt taste as bad as we think it does (even though they know it tastes THAT bad!) Parents are the people whos hearts are always opened, they seem to have a never ending stream of advice, and their ideas truly seem better, ALWAYS. They are the ones who spend time to make treats for your class, and cakes for your birthdays. They teach you to walk and talk, to share, to cook, to read and to write. The feed you, pyshiscally and mentally. They encourage you to be better, not because they want you to be better but because they know you can be a better person. Parents are the ones who support you and your dreams and except you for who you. They disipline you when you have crossed the line, and tell you that a heartbreak doesnt last forever the first time you heart shatters into a million pieces after your first boyfriend or girlfriend have dumped you. They teach you how to throw, and catch, cook and clean. They teach you the basics of life.
A 'parent' isnt always the man whos sperm helped create you, nor is the always the woman who carried you in her womb. Sometime, a parent is simply a person who has so much love in their heart, that they choose to take you into their home and raise you, care for you, and love you as if you were their own child, even when your not. But to them, that doesnt matter. They still have the same fear for their 'child' as a mother who gave birth to and raised has for her child. The only difference is the DNA, some times in a last name too.
